This 94th National Day offers some powerful lessons for Nigeria, my beloved country. Their celebration provides a valuable opportunity to explore and understand some of the values and strategies that have propelled this amazing nation to greatness.

I have stayed in Riyadh for over a decade now and have grown to like many aspects of Saudi culture and governance. Indeed, we can embrace several significant insights for the betterment of our country, particularly the collaborative efforts between citizens and leaders to promote progress.

This is not an article about religion. This is not an article about forms of leadership. It is my candid insight on what makes Saudi society work and what we can adopt as a nation. This is a nation that operates effortlessly.

It brings back fond memories of my secondary education in a seminary school. There were simple rules and regulations you had to follow. Failure to adhere means you are subject to some stipulated consequences, no matter your family background. This is not a perfect analogy, but Saudi society is orderly because the laws are so clear, with equally clear penalties.

Saudi Arabia’s Visionary Success: Powerful Lessons for Nigeria

Saudi Pride for Their Country and Its Leaders

The Saudis’ unwavering pride in their country and leadership is striking. They are profoundly patriotic and dedicated to the growth and development of their nation.

Also, when we talk about national pride, it is not a matter of words; it is a matter of how we live our daily lives. As a result, the people of Saudi Arabia are well aware that the country’s success depends on more than just excellent leadership. With this in mind, they actively contribute to national development by upholding the ideals of progress and unity.

We Nigerians have a rich history and culture that we should be proud of. We still have much more to do to demonstrate our patriotism.

We have always pointed fingers at the failures of leadership in Nigeria, rather than turning to ourselves as citizens to see what we can do in our small way to contribute to the growth of the nation. Change starts with us, and how far we go as a nation depends on the collective drive of Nigerians.

First and foremost, we must begin to believe that Nigeria’s development is not the sole responsibility of our leaders but rather the shared responsibility of all of us. Every Nigerian has one or another contribution to make in the areas of unity, values, and the actual national development process.

Vision-Directed Leadership: An Important Lesson for Nigeria

Another contributing factor to Saudi Arabia’s success has been the vision-driven leadership. The country has witnessed tremendous growth in infrastructure, education, technology, and many other fields since the launch of Vision 2030.

The Saudi leadership strives for the betterment of their citizens and is laboriously working on the economy’s diversification, reducing reliance on oil, and establishing new industries.

But then, Nigeria is also a similarly endowed country with enormous potential for development. What Nigeria needs is more deliberate planning and a long-term strategy with a commitment to execution, similar to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

If the leadership is in tune with clear-cut and realistic goals for the future, they can marshal both human and natural resources together to ensure sustainable development.

Knowledge Sharing and Adoption of the Brand Strategy

The Saudi Kingdom knows how to brand and position itself. The leadership and people of the Saudi Kingdom have embraced the most significant aspects of national identity, which they reflect in their relations with other countries, tourism, and economic policies. National branding is more collaborative; multidisciplinary teams are involved in development processes.

With the Saudi Pro League unveiled as a vision beyond the borders, many saw it as a tall dream. Today, the entire world is witnessing the transformation of Saudi Arabian sports. The branding extends beyond the Saudi Pro League to boxing, international automobile racing, international gulf competition, even esports, and more.

But that is what can greatly help us as Nigerians: that collaborative spirit. Our diversity has become one of our major strengths, and by collaborating across sectors and leveraging our expertise, we can build a strong national brand.

From politics to business and culture, we should be branding ourselves as a nation of resilience, innovation, and potential.

Powerful Lessons for Nigeria Wrap-up

As we celebrate Saudi Arabia’s 94th National Day, let us go back in time and think about those values and strategies that have seen this nation achieve so much in such a short time.

Pride and patriotism, vision-driven leadership, and collaboration have been some of the key drivers of Saudi Arabia’s success. These are the values that we, as Nigerians, can adopt in our quest for growth and development.

We need the will of our leadership and citizens to create a better Nigeria. When we unite to build this great nation, we will ensure unity, purpose, and vision, just like in the nation of Saudi Arabia.

If we take the right steps now, there’s nothing that can stop us from achieving whatever is possible as a country.

Long live the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
